Why sintered stone works for a dining table
Sintered stone is made by pressing natural minerals together and firing them at very high heat. The result is a dense, non-porous top that suits a table you eat at every day.
- Stains wipe off. Soy sauce, curry, coffee and red wine sit on the surface instead of soaking in, and there is no sealing to keep up.
- Heat is less of a worry. Warm plates and serving bowls will not mark it. For a pot straight off the stove, use a trivet, because a sudden, extreme change in temperature can crack any stone.
- It resists scratches from cutlery, keys and toys. The edges are the weak point, since a hard knock on a corner can chip it, which is why the Lacasa offers rounded corners.
Marble still has the softer feel and natural veining some people want. If you are torn, several tables come in both tops, such as the Naas, Caro and Wex I, so you can compare the two at the same size.
Which size fits your dining area
As a rough guide, allow about 60cm of table edge for each person, and about 90cm between the table and the wall so chairs can pull out.
- 1m to 1.2m: 2 to 4 people, for compact dining areas.
- 1.4m: 4 people, or 6 at a squeeze.
- 1.6m to 1.8m: 6 people, a common choice for HDB and condo dining areas.
- 2m: 6 to 8 people.
- Round, 100cm to 150cm: 4 people at 100cm to 110cm, 6 or more from 130cm. The Toro and Doji come with a free lazy Susan from 120cm.
Measure your lift and the doors on the way in before you order. A table that cannot go up in the lift has to be carried up the stairs, at an extra charge.
Made to order, in the colours you choose
Most of these tables are made to order: you choose the length, the top colour and the stand finish, and the table reaches Singapore in about 6 to 8 weeks. Each product page shows its own lead time and any sizes in ready stock. Sintered Stone Dining Tables: common questions
Is sintered stone better than marble for a dining table?
For everyday family meals, usually yes. Sintered stone does not soak up stains, needs no sealing, and copes better with heat and scratches. Natural marble has the softer feel and veining some people prefer, but it can stain, and lemon or vinegar can dull its surface; cultured marble can mark under heat. Several of our tables, like the
Naas and
Caro, come in both tops.
Is a sintered stone dining table expensive?
Less than many people expect. A 1.4m sintered stone table starts from about S$500, and most of the 1.6m and 1.8m tables, the usual size for six, cost between S$800 and S$1,200. On tables made in both tops, sintered stone costs more than marble at the same size, and the price shown first is often the marble one, so choose the sintered stone option on the product page to see its price.
Can I put hot pots on a sintered stone table?
Warm plates and serving bowls are fine. For a pot or wok straight off the stove, use a trivet or placemat, because a sudden, extreme change in temperature can crack any stone top.
Does sintered stone chip or scratch?
The surface resists scratches from everyday use much better than marble or wood. The edges and corners are the weak point: a heavy knock, like a pot dropped on the edge, can chip them. Rounded corners, an option on the
Lacasa, help in homes with young children.
How do I clean a sintered stone table?
Wipe it with a damp cloth and a little mild dish soap, then dry it. It needs no sealing or polish. Skip scouring pads, which can dull a glossy top over time.
What size sintered stone dining table do I need?
For 4 people, 1.2m to 1.4m, or a round table of 100cm to 110cm. For 6, 1.6m to 1.8m, or a round table from 130cm. For 8, 2m. Leave about 90cm around the table for chairs, and check your lift and doors before you order.
How long does a made-to-order table take?
Most reach Singapore in about 6 to 8 weeks from order confirmation, and a few, like the
Crion, in 5 to 6 weeks. Some sizes are in ready stock, such as the 1.6m
Jewel and
