A dining table for six is usually 1.6m to 1.8m long, or a round table from 130cm across. Every table here comes in a size that seats six, in sintered stone, marble, glass or travertine, and most cost under S$1,000 at 1.6m.
What size is a 6-seater dining table?
Allow about 60cm of table edge for each person.
- 160cm x 80cm: six, with two on each long side and one at each end. The most common size for HDB and condo dining areas.
- 180cm x 90cm: six along the two long sides, or eight with someone at each end.
- Round, 130cm to 150cm across: six, and easier to talk across. The Toro and Doji come with a free lazy Susan from 120cm; the Rado goes up to 150cm.
- Extendable: the ET01 opens from 1.6m to 2m, in ready stock, and the MHF004 opens to 1.6m or 1.7m.
Most dining tables stand about 75cm high.
How much room it needs
Leave about 90cm between the table and the wall or other furniture so chairs can pull out and people can pass. That means a 160cm x 80cm table needs a space of about 3.4m x 2.6m, a 180cm x 90cm table about 3.6m x 2.7m, and a 130cm round table a circle about 3.1m across. Measure your lift and the doors on the way in too: a table that cannot go up in the lift is carried up the stairs, at an extra charge.
Which top suits your home
- Sintered stone resists stains, heat and scratches and needs no sealing: see our sintered stone dining tables.
- Marble has natural veining and a softer feel, and needs coasters and quick wiping; several tables, like the Naas, come in marble or sintered stone.
- Glass keeps a small room feeling open, as on the Wedding and Fendee.
