Rays Marble or Sintered Stone Dining Table

A marble or sintered stone dining table from 1.4m to 2m, with a white or black top on a black or gold stand.

The stand is the feature: two angled beams cross in an X under the middle of the top and sit on a flat base plate. The long sides of the top curve out slightly rather than running dead straight. In black it suits a grey or monochrome HDB dining area; in gold it adds warmth to a white or cream room.

With one central base and no corner legs, chairs slide in along the sides and fit at both ends without knocking a leg. You choose the top material too, so you can weigh the look of marble against the easier upkeep of sintered stone.

Details

  • Top: sintered stone or marble; white or black
  • Stand: iron coated black, or stainless steel electroplated in gold
  • Base: crossed X pedestal on a flat base plate
  • Lengths: 1.4m, 1.6m, 1.8m or 2m
  • Availability: we advise on availability once your order is confirmed

How many it seats

  • 1.4m: 4 people, or 6 at a squeeze
  • 1.6m: 6 people
  • 1.8m: 6 people
  • 2m: 6 to 8 people

A rough guide: about 60cm of table edge per person, and about 90cm between the table and the wall so chairs can pull out. That means a room length of about the table length plus 1.8m: roughly 3.4m for the 1.6m table, or 3.8m for the 2m.

Marble or sintered stone: which top should you choose?

Marble is a natural stone with a cool, soft feel, but it is porous: coffee, wine, oil and acidic food such as lemon can stain or dull it if left. Sintered stone is made by pressing and firing minerals at very high heat, so it does not absorb spills, needs no sealing, and copes better with heat and scratches. Its weak point is the edges, which can chip if hit hard. For daily family meals with young children, sintered stone is the easier choice; if you want marble and do not mind wiping up straight away, choose marble. Chairs to pair it with

Match the chair legs to the stand. With the black stand, try the Hue leather chairs on black-coated iron, or the Lisa fabric chairs on slim black legs. With the gold stand, the Jay velvet chairs on gold legs carry the colour through. See all dining chairs.

Care

Sintered stone: wipe with a damp cloth and a little mild dish soap, then dry. It needs no sealing. Use a trivet for pots straight off the stove, avoid hard knocks on the edges, and lift the table rather than drag it.

Marble: wipe spills straight away, especially coffee, wine, oil, lemon and vinegar. Use coasters, placemats and a trivet for hot dishes, and clean with a damp cloth and mild soap rather than acidic or abrasive cleaners.

Stand: wipe with a soft dry cloth; abrasive cleaners can scratch the black coating or the gold finish.
