The back is tall and button-tufted, and its sides curve forward into wings that wrap round into low arms. Thin gold legs keep the full shape from looking heavy. Use a pair at the ends of a stone-topped dining table, or a full set for a more formal room; it also works as an accent chair in a living room.
Because the wings form arms, check them against your table before you order: the arms need to clear the underside of the top for the chair to tuck in. Bring your table height when you visit the showroom and compare it with the chair on display.
For long meals, usually more so than a plain side chair. The high back supports your upper back and shoulders, and the arms give you somewhere to rest your elbows, so you can sit back between courses rather than perch. The trade-off is space: a wingback dining chair is wider and heavier to pull out, so in a small HDB dining area it often makes sense to use two at the ends and lighter chairs along the sides.
